Use cases and applications

Where solenoid valves are fitted on the shop floor.

Cylinder control

5/2 valves drive double acting cylinders on pushers, lifters and transfer units.

Clamping fixtures

Valves hold and release clamps on welding and machining fixtures.

Sealing and cutting

Fast valves time the stroke of sealing jaws and cutters on packing machines.

Solenoid Valves questions

Answers to the questions buyers ask most before they order solenoid valves from us.

Solenoid Valves in use

How do I choose between a 3/2 and a 5/2 valve?

A 3/2 valve controls a single acting cylinder, a clamp or a blow off nozzle. A 5/2 valve has two outlet ports and drives a double acting cylinder in both directions.

What is the difference between single and double solenoid?

A single solenoid valve springs back when the coil is switched off. A double solenoid valve stays in its last position until the opposite coil is energised, so the cylinder holds position through a power cut.

Can I run a 24 V DC coil on AC?

No. A DC coil on an AC supply, or the reverse, overheats or fails to hold the valve over. Match both the voltage and the type of supply.

Can an air valve be used on water?

Only if it is built for it. Water needs a brass or stainless body and seals rated for the medium, so tell us the medium when you enquire.

Why does a pilot operated valve need minimum pressure?

The valve uses the supply air itself to shift the spool. Below the minimum pressure on the datasheet it will not move reliably, so use a direct acting valve on low pressure lines.

Why does my AC coil hum?

Humming usually means dirt under the plunger, low supply voltage or a worn coil. Clean the valve and check the voltage first, and replace the coil if the noise continues.

How do I match a replacement valve?

Send the part number, or note the function, port thread, coil voltage and mounting style from the old valve. A photo of the nameplate helps us confirm the match.

Can I replace only the coil?

Often yes, when the valve is otherwise sound and the new coil fits the same series and voltage. Send the old coil or valve so we can confirm the fit.

Need a part or a quotation?

Send a part number, a size or a photo of the old unit. Bulk and project enquiries are welcome.
